David Spade Bio + Facts

Hi everyone, I hope you have all been enjoying this blast of heatwave we are currently experiencing. For me, I would prefer there to be a breeze to go with it.

On Sunday I went to visit my daughter, as it was her birthday on Tuesday this week, but this birthday is a little bit more extra special for her as it’s her first one as a mum. Instead of just a day, she has what we call a birthday week, so enjoy the rest of your birthday week.

Who Is the Real David Spade?

David Spade is a writer, actor and stand-up comedian, who started to become well-known and famous throughout the 90’s. It was whilst starring on the Saturday Night Live Show that got him the recognition that he needed and began his journey to success and stardom as well and becoming the person he is today. Spade started appearing in such films like Coneheads (1993), Tommy Boy (1995), Black Sheep (1996) and in an award-winning TV series Just Shoot Me (1997-2003).

The Early Years

Born David Wayne Spade on 22, July 1964 in Birmingham, Michigan US. His father Wayne M. Spade was a sales representative, and his mother Judith M. Spade worked as a magazine writer and editor, (she is known also by Judy Todd and Judith Meek). David has two older brothers Bryan a Film and Television Producer and Andrew a businessman and entrepreneur, who co-founded Kate Spade New York with his wife Kate Spade.

Education

David was only four when his family moved from Birmingham Michigan to Scottsdale in Arizona, where he attended Saguaro High School, before moving onto Scottsdale Community College, and then transferred to Arizona State University it is among the best University in the state, where he came away with a business degree in 1990.

Spade fought for the career he has today, he is not type to give up without a fight, and it is through his sheer determination and hard work that he got to have the career that he enjoys doing today, and it is still going strong, besides teaming up with Adam Sandler on quite a few movies, he does branch out and gets other roles to sink his teeth into like 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag (1997),

Home Life

David has never been married to anyone. But after having a brief affair with Jillian Grace, he became a father for the first and last time, to a daughter, they named Harper. He never had a great role model in the father department, but has been there for his daughter and spends as much time with her as possible, and in turn is a great father…

Facts:

  • David and his two older brothers often took to the Arizona desert as kids to catch rattlesnakes (with tennis rackets!) to keep as pets.
  • Growing up, David wasn’t just a smart aleck, he was very smart in third grade, he got moved up to the fourth grade for some of his classes. He was a spelling bee champ, and read 47 books one year for a contest, and made it to the state chess finals, and was a member of Mensa.
  • David’s single mom couldn’t afford childcare, so she would sometimes drop her three sons off at one end of the desert, equipped with guns and bag lunches, for a day-long hike.
  • When David started out, his stand-up routine included props that he carried in his mother’s blue suitcase.
  • David’s father left his family when David was still was incredibly young. Years later, his stepfather, a war veteran, committed suicide.
  • Sister-in-law is handbag designer Kate Spade, who married his brother Andy, up to her passing in 2018.

Mindy Kaling Bio + Facts

Hi everyone, this week as not been not such a great week for my household, in particular my youngest daughter, as she was just getting over her last relapse with her Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME for short), but she has taken a step back. It is hard seeing your child in pain, but unable to do anything for them, its not just her that suffers daily, this is a complex condition that baffles the doctors as they don’t understand, which is why there are so many people out there that don’t receive any help from anyone, and I am afraid to say it but my daughter is one of them.

Anyway, on with today’s blog post. This week is about Mindy Kaling, she turns 42 today she is a talented actress, comedienne and mother, Mindy has become one of television’s funniest talents and is an inspiration and role model for everyone,

Early Life:

Mindy Kaling was born on 24 June1979 in Cambridge, Massachusetts United States, to parents Avu Chokalingam an architect and Dr Swati Chokalingam (nee Roysircar) an obstetrician/gynaecologist. As a child she would be so intrigued by comedy sketches and would pay more attention to such televised shows as Living Color and Saturday Night Live.

Mindy is an American actress, comedian and is known for her off-beat humour, which she displayed in her own project that she created in the popularised “The Mindy Project.” She was a member of the comedy troupe The Dog Day Players and the Rockapellas while attending one of the most distinguished and illustrious schools Dartmouth College, where she majored in theatre and joined an all-female a cappella group. During her time at the college Mindy would create a comic strip for the college newspaper called Badly Drawn Girl, in 2001 she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in playwriting.

How her Career Started

Kaling begun her career as an intern for the television show the Late Night with Conan O’Brien aged 19. From there, she moved to Brooklyn and went on to work as a production assistant for Crossing Over with John Edward, Kaling and her best friend wrote a Broadway play called Matt and Ben in 2002. The play was a wondrous hit at the New York International Fringe Festival, it a was named as one of the top ten theatrical events of the year. Kaling caught the eye of Greg Daniels that sane year and was hired to write and perform on the show. She was the only female among a staff of eight. This was the beginning of what would become an exceptional career for her.

  • Her birth name is Vera Mindy Chokalingam. The name Vera is, according to Kaling, is of the “incarnation of a Hindu goddess.”

What Made Dorothea Lange an Iconic Photographer and Who was she?

Hi everyone, todays post is about, yes you guessed it Dorothea Lange. This month is photography month and yesterday was her birthday, I thought why not combine the two.

I must admit my favourite photographer is my own daughter, yeah you may say that I am bias being her mum, but whatever she turns her hand to she attacks it with finesse and creativity. Anyway on with my blog!

Biography

Who Was Dorothea Lange?

It was through the Great Depression that Dorothea Lange photographed men, woman and children capturing the very essence of a time when unemployment was at its peak, and where men would wander the streets. This was the time when her most famous photographs of migrant workers had featured the words of the workers themselves, It was not long after that she held her first exhibition which would pave the way and earn her a reputation as a skilled documentary photographer.

Lange was an incredible photographer, who had an unbelievable amount of talent, she could capture the raw and unfiltered emotions of any subject she captured. The photographs would steal your breath away, and just simply draw you in to every situation.

The Early Years

Born Dorothea Nutzhorn on 26 May 1895, in Hoboken, New Jersey, U.S. to second-generation German Immigrants Johanna Lange a homemaker, and Heinrich Nutzhorn a lawyer. Dorothea was an accomplished American documentary photographer and photojournalist that included portraits, and those of displaced farmers during the great depression. She is one of the preeminent and pioneering documentary photographers to come out of the twentieth century.

By the time she reached 7, Lange contracted polio, which impacted her life dramatically, it left her right leg and foot noticeably weaker than her left one, which resulted in a limp. Later in life she would learn to appreciate what happened to her in that period of her life and look upon it as the most important thing that had happened to her, she once said that it “formed me, guided me, helped me, instructed me, and humiliated me.”

By the time she had reached her teens her parents divorced, it was her second severe trauma to hit her through her childhood. Her father’s abandonment affected Dorothea that much, she dropped his last name and assumed her mother’s maiden name Lange and made it her own.

Throughout her life, art and literature were a big part of her upbringing. Her parents were not only advocating for her education, but it meant that she was more in tuned to her creative side, bringing out her creativity through her works that would fill up her childhood.

After high school, she went on to attend the New York Training School for Teachers. Lange who had never showed any interests on the academic side, went on to pursue photography as a profession after working in a New York City photo studio, a decision that would change her life in every way. Lange went on to study the arts form at Columbia University, and over the next several years she would gain a wealth of knowledge and learn everything she could from several different photographers, such as Arnold Genthe a portrait photographer.

By the time 1918 came around, Lange was running a phenomenally successful portrait studio in San Francisco, with her husband muralist Maynard Dixon and had two sons, her life now had returned to her middle-class roots she had known has a child.

  • Lange studied photography at Columbia University in New York City under Clarence H. White, a member of the Photo-Secession group.
  • She was instrumental in organizing Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) famous “Family of Man” exhibition in 1955.

  • She was the first woman to be hired as a photographer by the Resettlement Administration (later Farm Security Administration) in 1935.
  • Lange was hired by the Office of War Information (OWI) to photograph the internment of Japanese Americans.
  • Her photographs influenced John Steinbeck, he was deeply affected by Lange’s photographs of the migrants of the Great Depression when completing his seminal novel, The Grapes of Wrath.

  • Inspired by a book titled The Irish Countryman, by Conrad M Arensberg Lange made a photo series in Ireland, she persuaded the editors of LIFE to commission her and her son Daniel Dixon, a writer, to create an in-depth study of rural life in Ireland in 1954.
  • Dorothea Lange passed away from oesophageal cancer on October 11, 1965, San Francisco, California.
  • Lange was admitted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 2003 and the California Hall of Fame 2008 after her death.

Jennifer Aniston

 Hi everyone, I hope you are all keeping your spirits up. I first off want to apologise for my post being late. This is the second time I have written this out, as my computer decided to shut down on me and I lost everything that I had done, Anyway on with today’s post.

Today is a day in which we celebrate Jennifer Aniston birthday as she turns 52 today. She is not only an amazing actress but she is also a film producer, a businesswoman and philanthropist. Born into a family of actors, she decided to follow her parent’s footsteps early in life and trained herself accordingly. However, regardless of her best efforts, success had not come for six exceptionally long years.

Her career really took off when she got the part of Rachel Green in the extremely popular television sitcom ‘Friends’ and it was then that she started to make her mark. Thanks to her portrayal of Rachel, she became so popular that she was known as The Rachel. Even though it made her so well known, she, unfortunately, became typecast. It was not until she played an unglamorous cashier in the ‘Good Girl’ that set her free from her stereotype image. It was not long before work started pouring in for her, and she began playing many lead roles that went on to become major hits. In addition to that, she appeared in many commercials and successful music videos. She had also signed a contract with Elizabeth Arden Inc, and worked there for more than a year to launch a new perfume called ‘Jennifer Aniston’, she also has two other perfumes to add to her credits ‘J’ and ‘Near Dusk’. Aniston fights for equal rights for the LGBT.

The Early Years

Jennifer was born Jennifer Joanna Anastassakis on February 11, 1969, in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles to parents John Aniston and Nancy Dow. She spent the first part of her childhood in Eddystone, Pennsylvania, where the family shared a three-bedroom house with her grandmother. It was there she begun her education in an elementary school. Later the family moved to New York City.

She went on to Waldorf School at six years where they would discourage you from watching television, so she would go to the theatre instead. Three years later her parents separated. Her dad went on to marry someone else and had her half-brother Alexander Aniston. She instantly became the middle child as she also has an older half-brother John T. Melick from her mother’s side.

Jennifer first started acting at eleven while she was studying at Waldorf. She later enrolled at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts and graduated from there.

Her Career

In 1988, Jennifer started her acting career by working in Off-Broadway shows like ‘For Dear Life’ and ‘Dancing on Checker’s Grave’. However, she was not making much money out of her acting career, instead, she took on some side jobs to help support herself, taking on jobs such as telemarketer, waitress and bike messenger.

In 1989, she went on to appear on ‘The Howard Stern Show’, the American radio show hosted by Howard Stern. In the same year, she moved to Los Angeles, where her father used to stay. Not long after her move, she got a part in 1990’s ‘Molloy’ alongside The Big Bangs Mayim Bialik. It aired for just for one season. She then went on to do a television series named ‘Ferris Bueller’ starring with Charlie Schlatter again, that only lasted for a season.

Undeterred by this, she went on to act in another two-television series before finding fame on the television sitcom ‘Friends’ in 1994. Which lasted 10 seasons, it became a success, It catapulted her career, and she became a household name. It was then she had finally established herself firmly as an actress and has made several successful films.

Jennifer is a well-known activist and philanthropist, she has been so generous with both her time and money as she has donated to several different philanthropic organizations, such as Project A.L.S., Feeding America, Doctors without Borders, AmeriCares, Friends of Al Faro, EB Medical Research Foundation, OmniPeace, and Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, Clothes Off Our Back, etc.

Jennifer has also helped with other causes like LGBT and has hosted shows like Stand Up for Cancer, and It Cannot Wait.

  • Aniston was bullied throughout her school life, as other kids decided to make fun of her. She was known as the class clown.
  • She went to school with Chaz Bono, and she would go to his house after school.

  • When Jennifer Aniston was a young child, she was riding a tricycle around the swimming pool and ended up crashing it into the water. She was too scared to let go of the trike, so her brother had to help her out of the water. This caused her to be terrified of being underwater…and even now she has a hard time filming scenes in the water.
  • Jennifer has struggled with dyslexia which made reading difficult for her. Before she was diagnosed, she just thought she was not good at academics since she was not able to retain any of the information.  
  • Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman have been friends since there early 20’s. They have appeared in five movies together “The Break-Up” (2006), “The Switch” (2010), “Horrible Bosses” (2011), “Horrible Bosses 2” (2014), and “Office Christmas Party” (2016).
